The Right Way To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Or iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch - Apple IOS ... - Sportz News

Click Here - For Jailbreak VideoSlashGear and other Apple watchers warned that Apple looks to be making life more difficult in general for those who want to jailbreak, or mess around with the insides of their iPhones and other mobile Apple devices: "[T]he road ahead for iOS jailbreakers looks to be trickier than ever. iOS 4.3.4 reportedly also closed off [two] other loopholes hackers had been using for untethered solutions – an integer overflow-related bug and an incomplete code signing issue. Meanwhile, iOS 5 will reportedly block firmware downgrades'using a new signing system."

Apple Closes Loophole

The message from the iPhone Dev Team is that most users should stay on iOS 4.3.3 and not update at all; there's no new functionality to be had, only the security fix (which can be achieved with a third-party app called PDF Patcher 2, available from the Cydia unofficial app store). Meanwhile this new jailbreak won't work on the iPad 2, and is being billed as primarily for the benefit of kernel hackers who want to work on the very latest firmware version.

iPhone Dev Team

While Apple's update may take untethered jailbreaking off the table, it doesn't necessarily mean cable-bound hacking will be the only option for iOS devices in the future. The iPhone Dev Team, as well as a long list of other coders, are a clever group and could come up with yet another untethered jailbreak option.

Right Way

The easiest way as of writing to make sure your iPhone or iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch is jailbreakable with JailbreakMe v3 is to upgrade to the latest version of iOS available for your iPhone or iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch. Just plug your device into iTunes, click on it under Devices in the sidebar, then click 'Check For Update' on the Summary tab. If your device isn't up to date, you'll be prompted to install the latest update. Do so… and prepare for jailbreak!

Jailbreak And Unlock iPhone 4/3Gs 4.3.5 Using The New FastSn0w, Apple's iOS ... - Sportz News

Apple has just released the new iOS 4.3.5 and customers of the iPhone, iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch will be happy to know it will fix the security vulnerability with certificate validation, jailbreakers will also be pleased that RedSn0w will jailbreak it, but if you like your jailbreaking do no download iOS 4.3.5.

In all his spare time, he also co-hosts the We Have Communicators podcast, and makes guest appearances on several other podcasts, too. Jeff dreams in HD.

iOS 4.3.5 Security Update

which is meant to patch a security vulnerability which could have left your phone open to an attack. If you're not using a jailbroken device you should probably connect your iPhone, iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch or iPad to iTunes and install iOS 4.3.5 to tighten security. For Verizon iPhone users, the software update will bring iOS 4.2.10.

iPad 2 Jailbreak

While Apple can claim the recent update was to "protect" users, in reality it will only add additional safety to the most careless of users. After all, a program called "PDF Patcher 2″ was widely available via the Cydia app store and other sources. The PDF Patcher 2 does pretty much the exact same thing as iOS 4.3.4, but does so after the user has jailbroken.

iOS 4.3.4 Jailbreak released

The message from the iPhone Dev Team is that most users should stay on iOS 4.3.3 and not update at all; there's no new functionality to be had, only the security fix (which can be achieved with a third-party app called PDF Patcher 2, available from the Cydia unofficial app store). 30 best iPad games - CNET (blog)

Sid Meier’s Pirates! makes a swashbuckling debut on iPad.

(Credit: Screenshot by Scott Stein/CNET)

Editors’ note: Updated on July 30 with four new games.

Wondering what games to buy for your new iPad? Well, this early in the product’s life, it’s actually pretty hard to sort the really good stuff from the just-decent stuff, particularly with the prices for many games being so much higher than their iPhone counterparts. But we took a shot at putting together a list of top titles that we feel meet the criteria for a good iPad game.

And just what does make a good iPad game? We debated it for a while and narrowed it down to these five factors:

  • It’s gotta be fun (obviously).
  • Ergonomics (are the gameplay and control scheme well-suited to the iPad?)
  • Uniqueness (though many iPad games play well as upconverted, higher-resolution versions of their iPhone predecessors, we respect new iPad-exclusive games).
  • Value (some of the best iPad games currently carry high price tags, but we also tried to include titles we thought were simply a good value).<</li>
  • Show-off quotient (extra points if the game flat-out looks good).

With that in mind, here are our current favorites, displayed in alphabetical order. Feel free to sound off with your own picks (or criticize our choices). With new games coming out almost daily, we will be updating this list frequently and taking your suggestions to heart. As more games are released, we may also expand the list to include more titles and, hopefully, discover some hidden gems.

Apple Laptop Batteries Can Be Hacked, Infected With Malware - SecurityNewsDaily

Jul 25, 2011 | 12:15 PM ET | By Paul Wagenseil, SecurityNewsDaily Managing Editor

apple macbook pro

Apple laptop batteries can be hacked to infect the laptop with malware, or possibly even rigged to explode, a well-known security researcher has found.

All modern laptop batteries have logic chips inside them that communicate with the computer they’re powering. That’s how you’re able to see how much charge is remaining. The chips also carry out regulatory tasks, such as shutting down the charging process when a battery’s at risk of overcharging.

But any logic chip has operating software — “firmware” — and that software can usually be remotely updated.

Charlie Miller, who’s famous for winning the annual Pwn2Own contest four times with his Mac OS X and iOS exploits, discovered that Apple puts the same password on all its laptop batteries in order to efficiently send out battery firmware updates.

Unfortunately, a skilled malicious hacker armed with the password could alter the firmware, Miller says. Altered firmware could be used to store malware or tweaked to damage the computer.

“These batteries just aren’t designed with the idea that people will mess with them,” Miller told Forbes tech blogger Andy Greenberg. “What I’m showing is that it’s possible to use them to do something really bad.”

Miller will be presenting his finding at next week’s Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas. He has already notified Apple of the vulnerability, and is not revealing the password.

Digging into source code

Miller, who formerly was with the National Security Agency and currently works for Denver security firm Accuvant Labs, was intrigued by a 2009 firmware update that Apple had sent out to fix a problem with MacBook batteries.

He analyzed the code for the update, found an administrative password and then noticed it applied to all models of Apple battery. This isn’t unusual — the iPhone, iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch also share a default, and easily Googled, administrative password.

Miller reverse-engineered the Apple battery firmware (“bricking,” or permanently damaging, seven of the $ 130 batteries in the process) and discovered how to alter it to send false readings to the laptop user, to damage the battery or even to serve as a hidden repository for malware.

“You could put a whole hard drive in, reinstall the software, flash the BIOS and every time it would re-attack and screw you over,” Miller told Greenberg. “There would be no way to eradicate or detect it other than removing the battery.”

The greater problem

Could the firmware be rigged to make the battery explode? Miller found that the Apple batteries had built-in fuses to prevent serious overheating, but there’s no guarantee counterfeit batteries would have such safeguards.

Miller has written a patch — he’s calling it “Caulkgun” — for the Apple battery vulnerability and will release it at Black Hat.

The downside is that Caulkgun will prevent future firmware updates. Nor will it do anything to solve the greater problem, because this vulnerability is not confined to Apple laptop batteries.

Most computer accessories and parts — hard drives, optical drives, graphics cards and network cards, for example — use firmware-upgradable logic chips. Most have enough memory space to house a small piece of malware.

It’s likely that most items in each category from a particular brand use the same administrative password.

For malicious hackers, it’s just a matter of finding out what those passwords are.

Apple releases iOS 4.3.5 to fix security issues - CNET (blog)

Apple has released the latest update to iOS, now version 4.3.5, to address security flaws. This update comes quickly after the 4.3.4 update which addressed a similar security flaw used to jailbreak iDevices. Users should download the update via iTunes when their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is plugged into their computer.

From the Apple knowledge base article about the update:

“Available for: iOS 3.0 through 4.3.4 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (GSM), iOS 3.1 through 4.3.4 for iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch (3rd generation) and later, iOS 3.2 through 4.3.4 for iPad.

Impact: An attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS.

Description: A certificate chain validation issue existed in the handling of X.509 certificates. An attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS. Other attacks involving X.509 certificate validation may also be possible. This issue is addressed through improved validation of X.509 certificate chains.”

Next low cost iPhone? - 9 to 5 Mac

MacRumors is reporting a plastic white iPhone found on Tinhte.vn may be the next value iPhone.

We only have 3 issues with these pictures:

1. It is running Cydia which is unlikely to be an easy install on a new prototype iPhone with a new cellular chip, internal hardware and firmware.  It is doubtful Apple is testing Cydia and it isn't a cakewalk to jailbreak an entirely new device.
2. Probably most damning, it has the tell-tale old white speaker grill at the top which was phased out as the white iPhone was improved over the past year and a half. It looks like the poster may have tried to blur it as well. It is doubtful that Apple would go back to this flawed design.
3. Plastic?

Some other information that you want to transfer to you is that this machine seems to run faster than the iPhone 4, lighter weight and two glass front and back seem to have been replaced by two plastic sheets, type of sensation and cry other than the iPhone 4.

It is unlikely that Apple would ever replace the glass front with plastic.  Even the $ 229 iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch is glass.  Can you imagine Apple doing plastic face?  Not possible.

More likely there is a matte overlay on the front of it.

Otherwise, this phone has a plastic back which would decrease the weight and cost and increase the durability.  Which actually makes some sense – though the $ 229 iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch gets by with stainless steel.  We were throwing this device around yesterday and concluded it was probably an iPhone 4 prototype that was brought back up to the surface – there is no shortage of those in Asia.  Two more shots below.

Tiny Umbrella 5.00.07 Released To Save iOS 4.3.5 SHSH Blobs - VeryRite

Tiny Umbrella 5.00.07 Released To Save iOS 4.3.5 SHSH Blobs On iPhone & iPad

Notcom has released an updated version of Tiny Umbrella to save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.3.5. The new Tiny Umbrella 5.00.07 can save SHSH hashes of iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch. Download links for both Mac and Windows are available below.

Another prominent feature of Tiny Umbrella 5.00.07 is that it allows you to update your iPhone 4 baseband. You can find more information about it posted here.

Most probably its going to be the last version in iOS 4 series. Those who are on iOS 4.3.3 are advised not to update to any other firmware because 4.3.3 is where the untethered jailbreak exists.

If you are on iOS 4.3.5, you can save SHSH blobs of your iDevice. Its always better to save SHSH because it let you downgrade to previous firmware even if Apple stops signing it.

TinyUmbrella

What are SHSH Blobs?

For the people who are not familiar, SHSH Blob is a signature verification file against Apple Server. It verifies that the iDevice is running the latest version of iOS. Saving SHSH blobs will allow you to restore to previous version. While doing so Apple will stop you doing the restore process. To make this happen you have send a request to different servers which forwards SHSH blobs to iTunes by just showing it that its a new version of iOS. This is how TinyUmbrella or iSHSHIT works to help you save SHSH blobs.

Security Problems Solved With Apple's iOS 4.3.5 Release, Why You'll Want To ... - Sportz News

Click Here - For Jailbreak Video
If you're looking to read books and magazines on the go, the iPad — or for that matter most any tablet — will do a better job than even the handsets with the largest screens. However, if you're just looking to catch up on a short chapter during a commute, the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch works just as well as an iPhone. It's important to note that due to its intermittent connectivity, the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch can't purchase books on the go or sync to the last page read across devices if you're not in a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Jailbreak Supports iOS 4.3.5

The current redsn0w hack from the iPhone Dev Team requires a tethered connections, meaning whenever the iOS device is rebooted, it must be connected to a computer to re-enable the jailbroken state. That limitation was introduced with a recent iOS update that patched a Web-based security flaw that could potentially be used for malicious purposes.

iOS 4.3.5 Jailbreak Available

The downside of upgrading to iOS 4.3.5 and then performing the jailbreak is that you'd only get a tethered jailbreak solution. In other words you'll have to plug the smartphone into the computer in order to boot it into a jailbroken state every time a rebooting occurs. But that's still better than nothing, and I'm sure many of you would agree. If you rely on an unlock as well, then you'll have to make sure that you preserve the baseband of your iPhone 3GS or early iPhone 4 model before going through with the iOS 4.3.5 upgrade and jailbreak.

Jailbreak iOS 5

These are only very few of the features that jailbreaking offers that iOS 5 doesn't. For a normal user, yes, iOS 5 brings a way to handle notifications, better stock apps, and some widgets…but for a hardcore user or even someone who wants to push the limits of their device, this is not enough. There are a plethora of downloads available in Cydia that is useful to many and those features will not be found in iOS 5. Scrolling board, folder enhancer, barrel, mxTube, infiniboard, emulators, overboard, CyDialer, multifl0w, safari downloader, 3G unrestrictor, cyntact, and many more. Even with the iOS 5 betas, devs have already started going at it, with all the Notification Center widgets that are available. As time goes by and firmware updates are released, it is becoming evident that Apple is treating the jailbreak community as a huge unofficial R&D sector. With the emergence of Notification Center, wifi sync, ability to use the device during sync, it can be seen that Apple is carefully monitoring the release and use of jailbreak apps and simply plucking out the popular ones and implementing it themselves into iOS. It is almost certain that, with the release of more APIs, the jailbreak devs will come up with more clever and useful tweaks in iOS 5, and it is more certain that some of those tweaks will show up in iOS 6 as stock features.

Security Problems Solved

Despite the update, things may not be as perfect as they seem. The iPhone Dev Team (the hacking group) feel that the jailbreak tool RedsnOw can still be used to break into devices that have incorporated iOS 4.3.5. The catch is that with RedsnOw, users will have to re-jailbreak every time the device reboots. Moreover, RedsnOw doesn't work on iPad 2.

How to breathe new life into your old iPhone - msnbc.com

updated 7/27/2011 8:03:47 AM ET 2011-07-27T12:03:47

Dear Lifehacker,
As attractive as buying a shiny new gadget might seem, I don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars on a new phone when my old iPhone still does everything I need. That said, I’m also suffering from at least a little new-phone envy. Anything I can do to make my old iPhone faster?

Sincerely,
Supporter of
Last Year’s Model

Dear Last Year,
As timing would have it, my Android phone’s having some trouble so I just swapped my SIM back into my iPhone 3G, so I’ve been looking into this very issue. And I’ve got good news: You’ve got several options for speeding up that old iPhone. Below, I’ll highlight a few of those options.

My Favorite Option: WhiteD00r
Whited00ris a replacement firmware for the iPhone 2G and 3G (as well as iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 1G and 2G) that’s designed specifically for aging iOS devices. It’s exactly like iOS, except it’s optimized to run fast on old devices while also introducing many of the features old iPhones can’t get from the most recent iOS updates. Among other features, Whited00r supports:

Multitasking
Folders
Homescreen wallpaper
Battery percentages
MMS
Bluetooth and USB tethering
Tap-to-focus camera
Emoji
Video recording

Essentially Whited00r offers a ton of upgrades to old iOS devices without the serious slowdowns you’ll experience if you try upgrading to iOS 4. (Which isn’t even an option, depending on how old your device is.) Whited00r devices are also jailbroken out of the box, so you can also enjoy our favorite jailbreak hacks.

To install Whited00r on your device, just follow along with Whited00r’s installation guide. When I installed Whited00r on my iPhone 3G, I had to follow the instructions in the “Solve installation errors” section, so if at first you don’t succeed, troubleshoot! Be sure to check out the post-installation scripts if you want to squeeze even more performance from your device.

The “Just Give Me What I Had” Option: Downgrade
If you don’t want to deal with a third-party firmware that isn’t officially supported by Apple, you may just want to downgrade that old iPhone to iOS 3. Here’s how to do that. You won’t get the nice features available in iOS 4, but you will get an iPhone that works just as well as it did — well, back before anyone had heard of the iPhone 4.

The Grasping at Straws Option: Tweak iOS 4
If neither of the options above seem attractive to you, you can try one of the many reader-suggested tips mentioned here. Folks around the net have claimed that performing a double hard-reset, disabling the right features and clearing various caches on your iPhone can bring iOS 4 up to usable speeds on an old device. To me, these options feel more like practicing superstition than actually fixing anything. Your mileage may vary.

Other Options?
These are the three best methods I’ve tried with my iPhone 3G (my favorite, as I said, being Whited00r), but that doesn’t mean you don’t have other options. Readers, if you know of any other tried-and-true methods for speeding up and old iPhone, let’s hear it in the comments!

And to you, Last Year’s Model — hopefully one of these methods proves helpful for you!

Love,
Lifehacker

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 For iPhone iPad & iTouch Possible With Redsn0w - VeryRite

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 For iPhone iPad & iTouch Possible With Redsn0w

Redsnow can jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone, iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch. Remember they have not updated the Redsn0w software. Its the same Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that is still capable of jailbreaking the latest iOS 4.3.5 firmware. Remember its a tethered jailbreak solution. Download link is available below.

Apple has released iOS 4.3.5 firmware for iPhone, iPad and iTouch yesterday. Its released to fix security bugs. To be more specific, 4.3.5 is released to "fix a security vulnerability with certificate validation".

For jailbreakers, its very similar to iOS 4.3.4. Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 can jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 as it was able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.4. But remember its a tethered jailbreak. Most probably there will be no untethered jailbreak solution for these firmware as the developer will be interested to bring an untethered solution for the upcoming iOS 5 public version.

iOS 4.3.5 jailbreak

Those of you who are still on iOS 4.3.3 are advised not to update to iOS 4.3.5. Those who have updated to iOS 4.3.5 can use Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 for tethered jailbreak. Better way is to downgrade to iOS 4.3.3 and enjoy the untethered versions using Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze.

iPad 2 users are advised not to update to iOS 4.3.5. We have already warned you but still some beginners are doing mistakes. If you want to retain your iPad 2 jailbreak using JailbreakMe 3.0, you MUST stay on iOS 4.3.3.

Apple Releases Another iOS Update - It's Already Jailbroken - Gotta Be Mobile

It seems like it was just last week that Apple released iOS 4.3.4, which patched the exploit that allowed the iPad 2 (and all other iOS devices) to be jailbroken. Actually, it was just last week. Well, Apple wasted no time issuing another update, this one bringing it up to 4.3.5 for most devices. The Verizon iPhone's version of the update is numbered 4.2.10.

This latest firmware update addressing an additional security issue (unrelated to jailbreaking). Speaking of jailbreaking, developers have already found success in applying a tethered jailbreak to the new update (for all devices but the iPad 2).

This is from Apple's knowledge base article regarding the update:

Available for: iOS 3.0 through 4.3.4 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (GSM), iOS 3.1 through 4.3.4 for iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch (3rd generation) and later, iOS 3.2 through 4.3.4 for iPad.

This issue is addressed through improved validation of X.509 certificate chains.

Those users who are jailbroken already should steer clear of this update, as an untethered jailbreak isn't likely to be available anytime soon (tethered jailbreaks require you to connect to a PC or Mac everytime you reboot your iDevice).

If you end up stuck on the new 4.3.5 firmware and you want to jailbreak, you can do so with Redsn0w. The same instructions from our post about the previous update will work with this update too.

Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 4/3Gs 4.3.3 and 4.3.4 Is Now Ready To Unlock, iPad ... - Sportz News

Click Here - For Jailbreak Video
Jailbreak and unlock iphone 4/3Gs iOS 4.3.4 and 4.3.3 on iPhone, iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) Touch is possible with www.Unlock-iPhone.org can now be done and downloaded. Previously we have updated you about Redsnow 4.3.4 and 4.3.3 to jailbreak iphone 4/3Gs iOS 4.3.4 and 4.3.3 but remember Redsn0w does not allow you to preserve your baseband. Pwnage Tool download can be used to preserve baseband from updating.

iPad 2 Finally Shipping

The iPad is Apple's tablet computer, unveiled in January, 2010, and launched in April, 2010.The second generation of the iPad — the iPad 2 — was unveiled on March 2, 2011. It will be available for sale in the U.S. on March. The iPad is particularly marketed as a platform for audio and visual media such as books, periodicals, movies, music, and games, as well as web content. At about 1.5 pounds (680 grams), its size and weight are between those of most contemporary smartphones and laptop computers. Apple sold 3 million of the devices in 80 days after the release.

iOS 5 Beta 4 JailBreak

iOS 5 Beta 4 JailBreak is similar to other devices where you need to point out iOS 5 Beta 4 in Redsn0w 0.9.8b4. Follow the instructions carefully and it will lead to a JailBroken device. Tethered JailBreak means that you need software again to reboot your device and let it function properly. Safari crashing and white cydia icon are the common problems which you may face if you wouldn't follow the process.

Apple Profit Soars

Investors greeted the achievement by sending the company's shares up 6 per cent in after-hours trading, to 398 dollars, consolidating Apple's status as the world's most valuable technology company with a stock valuation of some 348 billion dollars. Apple is closing in on oil giant Exxon Mobile, which at 414 billion dollars is the only publicly traded company in the world in any sector with a higher market valuation.

Coverjam Pro by Electric Pocket is a facelift for your iPhone's music player.

The app turns that boring old cover art into a slideshow of images related to the artists playing in your queue, a la SoundHound only without the extra information.

Coverjam also serves as an all out iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) replacement, playing your media directly from your iTunes library. The cover flow mechanic is a nice touch (when it works) and song playback was flawless, however Coverjam isn't quite ready to take center stage from your iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch).

Created by Topspin Media, Inc., the official app is a must-have for Pixies fans everywhere. In addition to offering on-demand streaming of archive performances, the app offers access to the band's infamous Purple Tape.

First created at Fort Apache Studios in 1986, the Purple Tape is a 17-track demo that made the band famous.

Songify For iPhone: Effortlessly Turns Speech Into Song

You want to be a singer? Before applying to American Idol, X Factor et. al., take a look at Songify, because even if you can't sing, this iPhone app can help you out. Thanks to the app's clever technology, users simply have to speak into their iPhone and Songify will auto-tune away, and create a catchy track out of your speech. Clever, huh?

It sure is. And what's more, the application is fun, too. While only a limited number of styles are available for free (the rest carry a $ 0.99 in-app price-tag), it is possible to have a lot of fun with the three built-in styles already available within Songify (my personal favorite is Deluge, by Khush).

Float Reader Makes Reading News & Magazines On Your iPhone Easier

Apple can add to the iPhone as many enhancements as they want, but the handset will still have one limitation; the screen is sometimes too small for optimal reading. However, Float Reader for the iPhone/iPod touch has arrived making reading on the handset easier and more flexible than ever.

Created by Scribd, the social publishing site, the app helps you explore your favorite web content, including news and magazines, from one place. Plus, Facebook, Twitter, and Scribd members can use the app to make recommendations to others.

SoundHound ∞, $ 6.99 & Universal, Updated July 20

Follow Along Line By Line With LiveLyrics, Available In The New SoundHound 4

One of the top music tagging and information apps just got a bit sweeter a little earlier today. Available to United States and Canada users, the LiveLyrics feature of SoundHound v4.0 makes singing along to a song as easy as karaoke.

You may be thinking; SoundHound already offers lyrics for my favorite songs. Indeed, however, LiveLyrics takes that up a notch or tow. Supporting over 500,000 songs at launch, LiveLyrics identifies what verse and line is currently being sung. Once again, there are already iOS apps that offer this type of feature, right? Correct, but LiveLyrics has capabilities only apps like SoundHound can successfully pull off.

The Best iPhone Apps Of The Week is published each weekend; a companion piece, The Best iPad Apps Of The Week, is published separately.

Attention developers: If you would like your app to be considered for one of our "Best Of" lists, please me know by sending me a treat @bryanmwolfe. Note: Your app must have been new or updated in the last week to make the current list.

iPod touch 5G to Come With 3G Data Support, iOS 5 Beta 4 Says [New Finding ... - TFTS (blog)

Apple released yesterday its latest iOS 5 beta version and it looks like the new firmware is ready to reveal some interesting facts about the future iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch. Also yesterday we've seen the first leaked parts of the next-gen iconic Apple MP3 player which suggest that Apple will have a white iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G in stores at some point later this year.

Whether the leak can be confirmed or not, we're more interested in iOS 5 beta 4 at this point, as this iOS version tells us the next-gen multimedia player will come with support for 3G data, as rumored before. If you ask me, adding 3G data support to the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G is a logical next step. After all Apple's iPad and iPad 2 are both capable of offering 3G support, on a no-contract, pay-as-you-go basis, so why shouldn't this new feature be supported by a smaller iPad, like the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G.

One more important reason to back this claim up is Apple's newly announced iCloud product, which will certainly be something of interest for all iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch users. And Apple surely wants its cloud to be accessible on as many iOS devices, including the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch, even when a Wi-Fi network is not present.

And, let's not forget that Apple wants to make cheaper iPhones that would be able to fight the cheap Android handsets available out there. Adding 3G data support to the next iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch is a step in the right direction. All it would need is GSM/CDMA support for voice and messages and we'd end up with a cheaper iPhone.

The screenshot above was taken on an iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch with iOS 5 beta 4 on board, and as you can see, there's a little switch available there to turn on cellular connectivity, and, as I said above, it's definitely related to Apple's upcoming iCloud features.

Anyone interested in a 3G-enabled iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G?

Was this post interesting? Please help support independent blogging with a +1 and/or share using the services below. Your support would be very much appreciated….

White iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch launching later this year? - CNET

Will a white iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch launch later this year?

Will a white iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch launch later this year?

(Credit: Apple)

Apple might announce a white iPod Touch in the next couple of months, but the device will have few if any new features, AppleInsider is reporting.

According to the Apple-focused publication, Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said recent industry checks point to Apple unveiling a white iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch in August or September, which is typically when the company shows off its new portable music players. However, the new device will have few if any feature changes from the current iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch, Kuo said.

Apple’s iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch is currently available in black. The device comes with a Retina display, HD video recording, and FaceTime video chatting. Apple sells 8GB, 32GB, and 64GB models for $ 229, $ 299, and $ 399.

Apple launching a white version of the iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) Touch with little to no improvement isn’t unprecedented. Earlier this year, after a long wait, Apple finally launched the white iPhone 4, which delivered the same functionality as the black version. That device currently retails for $ 199 and $ 299 for 16GB and 32GB versions, respectively.

Exactly why Apple apparently won’t update its flagship iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) this year is unknown. However, Kuo told AppleInsider that it could have something to do with Apple’s desire to focus its mobile efforts on the iPhone and iPad.

It might not be a bad idea. Apple’s iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) business has been on the decline as of late as the company’s other mobile products soar. During Apple’s fiscal third quarter, the company sold 7.54 million iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) units, representing a 20 percent decline year over year, it announced earlier this week. Apple sold 20.34 million iPhones and 9.25 million iPads to tally year-over-year gains of 142 percent and 183 percent, respectively.

During the fiscal third quarter, Apple’s iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) revenue was just 4.6 percent of its total sales. During the same period last year, the iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch)’s revenue share stood at nearly 10 percent.

Even so, there’s no telling what Apple might have planned. The company is notoriously secretive, and any rumor must be taken with a grain of salt.

Apple declined to comment on whether it will launch a new iPod (top 100 apps for ipod touch) later this year.

Update, 9:17 a.m. PT to include Apple’s decision to not comment on the story.

iOS 5 Beta 4 Ready for Download; Full Changelog Available [Apple Releases New ... - TFTS (blog)

A little over a week ago Apple launched iOS 5 Beta 3 and developers, or basically anyone with access to a developer's account, were able to test out the latest iPhone, iPad and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch firmware version. Today Apple released iOS 5 Beta 4, so you can forget all about the previous beta and test out this new software update.

iOS 5 Beta 4 is compatible with plenty of iOS devices: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 3G and iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 4G. All previous versions were successfully jailbroken right after launch so we can only assume an iOS 5 Beta 4 jailbreak is also around the corner for most devices, with the only exception being the iPad 2 (to jailbreak the iPad 2 you need JailbreakMe 3.0 and iOS 4.3.3).

iTunes 10.5 beta 4 is also available to download, but that's not as interesting as the new iOS 5 beta, is it? Below you'll find, the full changelog for the latest iOS 5 Beta, courtesy of BGR:

Accounts

• When creating an iCloud account you can use any Apple ID provided it is a full email address and not a MobileMe account. If you have a MobileMe account, you can copy data from that account to an iCloud account to use during testing. You can find more information on iCloud at: http://developer.apple.com/icloud
• When setting up an iCloud or MobileMe account using the setup assistant and leaving Find My iPhone on, it might actually turn Find my iPhone off after the setup. Please verify in Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendar/YourAccount that Find my iPhone is toggled On after leaving the setup assistant.
• It is recommended that you disable Bookmarks on multiple accounts. If they are enabled, the results might be undefined.
• FIXED: In this beta the option of "Choosing a security question" is not working during an iCloud account setup.

AirPlay

• Starting in iOS 5, video content in applications and websites are AirPlay-enabled by default.
• iOS 5 supports AirPlay of video via AV Foundation.
• Switching into AirPay Video while using mirroring will leave the screen black but the video is still playing.

Apple TV

• Apple TV Software beta enables users to mirror the contents of an iPad 2 to an Apple TV (2nd generation) using AirPlay. This beta software also enables Photo Stream on Apple TV so users can access photos stored in iCloud. Apple TV Software beta is being provided to test the latest AirPlay functionality with your iOS 5 apps and web sites. If you wish to install Apple TV Software beta on your device, you must first register your device UDID in the iOS Developer Program Portal.
• There is no new build for AppleTV for beta 4. Please continue using the build provided with beta 3.
Audio
• Using voice chat in iOS 5 requires setting the kAudioSessionMode_VoiceChat mode on the Audio Session, or setting the AVAudioSessionModeVoiceChat mode on the AVAudioSession object.

Calendar

• All MobileMe calendars were duplicated after turning calendar syncing off and back on.
• FIXED: Restoring from a Seed 1 backup or earlier will cause MobileMe/iCloud calendars not to sync. Subscribed calendars will show up in Calendars but none of your event calendars will appear in MobileCal. To workaround the problem please remove and re-add the account.
• If SnowLeopard isn't syncing your calendars on iOS device and you created a calendar or reminders list using a previous iOS 5.0 seed, change the name of that calendar or list on the iOS device and then let it sync.
• In this beta Birthday calendar is temporarily disabled for Web apps and Windows and will be available in a future release.

Contacts

• NEW:In MobileMe local contacts are deleted instead of be being merged.
• In this beta Import/Export vCard is disabled from Action menu and will be available in future release.

GameKit

• Match data for turn based matches is currently limited to 4 KB of data.
• When both Wifi and 3G are disabled (i.e. in Airplane mode) sometimes GameKit can cause the connection in a local Bluetooth match to fail.
iBooks
• iBooks 1.2.2 may fail to display some text or images in books. Please update to iBooks 1.3 in the App Store.

iCloud Backup

• As this is beta software, it is recommended that you do not use the iCloud services to store any critical data or information. If you enable iCloud Backup, automatic backup with iTunes when syncing will be disabled. We suggest you also manually back up your device with iTunes. It is strongly advised you upgrade to this version of the iOS 5 beta in order to continue backing up your devices and preserve previous backups.
iCloud Storage
• During the iOS 5 beta period, any documents stored on the servers might be purged periodically before GM. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you do not store any critical documents or information on the servers.
• If your application is using the NSMetadataQuery class, you must set a predicate, even though the predicate itself is ignored.
• The Foundation framework doesn't include the team ID when looking for an app's mobile documents container. The Team ID must be included at the beginning of the identifier string passed to theURLForUbiquityContainerIdentifier: method.
• In this beta, the setSortDescriptors: method of NSMetadataQuery is not supported.
• In this beta, if you want to use iCloud, you have to manually specify various container identifiers (your application's Display set) within an Entitlements file for both of your Mac OS X and iOS projects.
• There are issues using the Cloud Storage document API in conjunction with protected data which can lead to data corruption.
• In this beta, document-based applications cannot always detect when files change, move, or are deleted out from underneath them.
• NEW: In this beta, file presenters (objects that adopt the NSFilePresenter protocol) do not receive some of the messages that they're supposed to receive, especially:
o presentedItemDidChange
o presentedSubitemDidAppearAtURL:
o presentedSubitemDidChangeAtURL:
You can workaround this by implementing the relinquishPresentedItemToWriter: method and checking to see if the writer actually wrote when your file presenter reacquires. You can also use FSEvents to observe file system changes
• In this beta, messages about changes to files in a directory are not getting delivered to objects that adopt the NSFilePresenter protocol.
• While reporting a bug related to the iCloud storage interfaces, please include the logs collected during your debugging session. To generate these logs, you must install a special debug profile on your device. The debug profile can be obtained from http://connect.apple.com. This profile enables the generation of debug logs that are needed to diagnose any problems using iCloud storage. The instructions to collect the logs are:
1. Install the profile. (The easiest way to do this is to mail it to yourself and open the attachment on their device.)
2. Reproduce the bug.
3. Sync with iTunes to pull the logs off your device.
4. Attach the logs to your bug report. You can find the logs in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/DiagnosticLogs.
These logs can grow large very quickly, so you should remove the profile after you have reproduced the problem and pulled the logs for the bug report.
• NEW: File names in iCloud Storage are case sensitive.

iMessage

• NEW: iMessage beta 1 will be unable to communicate with iMessage users on beta 2 or later.
iTunes
• The version of iTunes that comes with beta 4 cannot sync devices that have the beta 2 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:
1. Sync any devices that have beta 3 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 4.
2. Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with beta 4.
3. Connect the device and install the beta 4 software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)
4. After installing the beta 4 software, restore from your the backup you made in step 1.
• Videos purchased from the iTunes Store do not play on a 2nd generation AppleTV over AirPlay with iTunes 10.5.

Location

• NEW:The startMonitoringSignificantLocationChanges method of CLLocationManager does not cause
applications to be resumed or launched in the background for significant location change updates. However, if a backup from a previous software version (where an application was monitoring significant location changes) is restored to the device, significant location change monitoring will continue to cause that application to be resumed or launched in the background.

Mail

• NEW:Forwarding a message with attachments included does not attach the file and the message compose screen does not change from "Loading…."

Music Library

• NEW:Some songs are missing their album artwork after changing the device library via syncing.

OpenGL

• NEW: In iOS 5.0 beta 4, several OpenGL extensions have been moved from the APPLE namespace to the EXT namespace, causing some API to be renamed. The altered extensions are EXT_color_buffer_half_float,EXT_occlusion_query_boolean, EXT_separate_shader_objects, EXT_shadow_samplers, EXT_texture_rg, EXT_debug_label, and EXT_debug_marker.
OTA Software Update
• NEW: If you are doing a OTA software update from beta 3 to beta 4, you will need to re-sync your photos with iTunes."

Personal HotSpot

• NEW:In this beta iPhone 4 device cannot join personal hotspot even if it is on due to a non functional WiFi tethering on these devices.

Photo Adjustments

• If you apply red-eye adjustments in iOS, and import your image into the iPhoto seed build, the red-eye adjustments will not appear on that image in iPhoto. As a result, subsequent syncing of your image back to the iOS device from iPhoto will not show the red-eye adjustments.
Settings
• FIXED: In this beta FaceTime icon is missing in Settings on the iPhones.

Simulator

• NEW: Location services are not functional in iOS 4.3 simulator running on Mac OS 10.7 with Xcode 4.2.
Springboard
• Push and local notifications for apps appear in the new Notification Center in iOS 5. Notification Center displays notifications that are considered "unread." In order to accommodate push and local notifications that have no "unread" status, developers can use their application badge count to trigger a clearing of notifications from Notification Center. When an application clears its badge count (by setting it to zero), iOS 5 will clear its notifications from Notification Center.
• NEW: iOS 5.0 terminates VoIP applications that are resumed in the background for incoming network traffic with extreme frequency. Developers are encouraged to make sure all incoming data is read from VoIP sockets to avoid this condition.

Twitter

• NEW: When tweeting your location from Safari and exiting before the location can be established, the location arrow will stay in the status bar. The arrow can be removed by killing Safari from the task switcher.

UI Automation

• NEW: Instruments overwrites the loaded automation script, even if another program is editing it.
• The play and record buttons in the Automation instrument script editor may not work properly after targeting an application that was launched by a trace session and has ended. They may also not work if you target an application that was suspended. If you run into this problem and it persists, you may need to close and reopen the trace document to get back into a functional state.
• When capturing actions into a script using the Automation instrument, interfaces with web views or table cells that contain a high number of off screen elements may take an extremely long time before returning with an expression.
• The lock() and unlock() functions of UIATarget have been replaced with the lockForDuration() function.
• FIXED:Instruments overwrites the loaded automation script, even if another program is editing it.
• Starting in iOS 5 beta 2, you can now trigger the execution of an UI Automation script on an iOS device from the host terminal by using the instruments tool. The command is:
o instruments -w -t
