iPod touch 5G to Come With 3G Data Support, iOS 5 Beta 4 Says [New Finding ... - TFTS (blog)

Apple released yesterday its latest iOS 5 beta version and it looks like the new firmware is ready to reveal some interesting facts about the future iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch. Also yesterday we've seen the first leaked parts of the next-gen iconic Apple MP3 player which suggest that Apple will have a white iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G in stores at some point later this year.

Whether the leak can be confirmed or not, we're more interested in iOS 5 beta 4 at this point, as this iOS version tells us the next-gen multimedia player will come with support for 3G data, as rumored before. If you ask me, adding 3G data support to the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G is a logical next step. After all Apple's iPad and iPad 2 are both capable of offering 3G support, on a no-contract, pay-as-you-go basis, so why shouldn't this new feature be supported by a smaller iPad, like the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G.

One more important reason to back this claim up is Apple's newly announced iCloud product, which will certainly be something of interest for all iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch users. And Apple surely wants its cloud to be accessible on as many iOS devices, including the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch, even when a Wi-Fi network is not present.

And, let's not forget that Apple wants to make cheaper iPhones that would be able to fight the cheap Android handsets available out there. Adding 3G data support to the next iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch is a step in the right direction. All it would need is GSM/CDMA support for voice and messages and we'd end up with a cheaper iPhone.

The screenshot above was taken on an iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch with iOS 5 beta 4 on board, and as you can see, there's a little switch available there to turn on cellular connectivity, and, as I said above, it's definitely related to Apple's upcoming iCloud features.

Anyone interested in a 3G-enabled iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch 5G?
