If you're looking to read books and magazines on the go, the iPad — or for that matter most any tablet — will do a better job than even the handsets with the largest screens. However, if you're just looking to catch up on a short chapter during a commute, the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch works just as well as an iPhone. It's important to note that due to its intermittent connectivity, the iPod (ipod touch firmware 3.1.3 download) touch can't purchase books on the go or sync to the last page read across devices if you're not in a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Jailbreak Supports iOS 4.3.5

The current redsn0w hack from the iPhone Dev Team requires a tethered connections, meaning whenever the iOS device is rebooted, it must be connected to a computer to re-enable the jailbroken state. That limitation was introduced with a recent iOS update that patched a Web-based security flaw that could potentially be used for malicious purposes.

iOS 4.3.5 Jailbreak Available

The downside of upgrading to iOS 4.3.5 and then performing the jailbreak is that you'd only get a tethered jailbreak solution. In other words you'll have to plug the smartphone into the computer in order to boot it into a jailbroken state every time a rebooting occurs. But that's still better than nothing, and I'm sure many of you would agree. If you rely on an unlock as well, then you'll have to make sure that you preserve the baseband of your iPhone 3GS or early iPhone 4 model before going through with the iOS 4.3.5 upgrade and jailbreak.

Jailbreak iOS 5

These are only very few of the features that jailbreaking offers that iOS 5 doesn't. For a normal user, yes, iOS 5 brings a way to handle notifications, better stock apps, and some widgets…but for a hardcore user or even someone who wants to push the limits of their device, this is not enough. There are a plethora of downloads available in Cydia that is useful to many and those features will not be found in iOS 5. Scrolling board, folder enhancer, barrel, mxTube, infiniboard, emulators, overboard, CyDialer, multifl0w, safari downloader, 3G unrestrictor, cyntact, and many more. Even with the iOS 5 betas, devs have already started going at it, with all the Notification Center widgets that are available. As time goes by and firmware updates are released, it is becoming evident that Apple is treating the jailbreak community as a huge unofficial R&D sector. With the emergence of Notification Center, wifi sync, ability to use the device during sync, it can be seen that Apple is carefully monitoring the release and use of jailbreak apps and simply plucking out the popular ones and implementing it themselves into iOS. It is almost certain that, with the release of more APIs, the jailbreak devs will come up with more clever and useful tweaks in iOS 5, and it is more certain that some of those tweaks will show up in iOS 6 as stock features.

Security Problems Solved

Despite the update, things may not be as perfect as they seem. The iPhone Dev Team (the hacking group) feel that the jailbreak tool RedsnOw can still be used to break into devices that have incorporated iOS 4.3.5. The catch is that with RedsnOw, users will have to re-jailbreak every time the device reboots. Moreover, RedsnOw doesn't work on iPad 2.
